Church in Society

Church in Society

The Christian is to be IN the world but not OF the world.  Thus the Church in Society Committee is concerned with the Church’s role for the betterment of society.  The Bible is full of passages that teach us how loving and serving our neighbor is an important part of the way we express our faith.  Furthermore, it is not optional for the Church to be involved in social issues.  Such involvement not only serves others, but it witnesses to our faith, and serves Christ himself.  “Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these, my brothers and sisters, you have done it unto me” (Matthew 25).

The Church in Society Committee will be involved with

  • hunger issues such as the local food pantry, regional efforts such as Feed My Starving Children, as well as the ELCA’s global hunger program including the ELCA Malaria Campaign
  • Operation Christmas Child
  • Lutheran World Relief: quilts, layettes
  • Serving at the Ronald MacDonald House
  • Salvation Army red kettle campaign
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Response to disasters, both locally and globally
